Supported Devices

Below is a list of devices which are confirmed to run with the current version of Cumulus.

If you are running a different model, please take a moment to update the page.

We also maintain a list of unsupported devices

Supported Devices

This list applies to the latest version of Cumulus MX. Only a limited subset of these devices will work with Cumulus 1 (marked with ^).

Davis Range

Oregon Scientific

  • WMR-928 ^
  • WMR-918 ^
  • WM-918 ^
  • WMR-968 ^
  • Equivalent rebadged Radio Shack stations (serial only) ^
  • WMR-88, WMR-100, WMR-180, WMRS200 and WMR-200 ^

Fine Offset

(Brands include: Conrad, MyDEL, Nevada, Watson, Tycon Power, Aercus, Ambient, Misol, etc)

Fine Offset manufactured weather stations are sold under a lot of different Brand Names.

Use the "Fine Offset (WH1080)" setting in Cumulus for these stations that send weather information to a computer using a USB connection, and that weather information does not include a Lux measurement. Only a selection of makes and model numbers are included in this list:

Fine Offset with UV/Light sensor

There are many other brands of station as in last section. Include here any Fine Offset manufactured stations which have solar sensors (rather than just solar charging) and transmit data via USB.

Use this setting ("Fine Offset with Solar Sensors") for these which do report "lux" as well as other weather measurements:

  • WH3080/WH3081/WH3083 ^
  • WS3080/WS3081/WS3083 ^

In general, if the station is supplied with 'Easyweather' software, it is likely that the station is made by Fine Offset and will work with Cumulus.

Ecowitt, Misol, or Froggit

This particular device is just a transmitting relay (also known as dongle), powered by USB (the USB does not have any data sent over it), containing temperature, pressure and humidity sensors, and able to interrogate a range of external sensors; and output to various external servers/destinations.

As is often the case with devices manufactured by Fine Offset, they are sold with a variety of brand names for essentially same device.

Ecowitt is a subsidiary of Fine Offset in China. Ecowitt (China and USA), Misol (China), and Froggit (Central Europe) are brand names for Fine Offset/Ecowitt's latest range of weather stations and sensors.

Please see the wxforum.net forum for full details about each of the models, and how they differ, as well as which sensors are compatible, and which external servers are standard.

These devices, do not include a screen to show readings, nor do they provide any logger functionality to store readings.

For MX purposes, they support up to 8 sensors measuring temperature (MX calls these the user temperatures, because they might be soil probes, devices for measuring water, or air temperature, MX does not care), plus up to 4 air quality sensors (again MX does not care how they detect the air quality number they report).

At the time of updating this section:

It is possible that model names may vary, which is why you should check at the wxforum.net forum.

CumulusMX can use these devices as main station or as extra sensor device. When used as main station, although there is no logger, if the user has the device send all data to Ecowitt.net server, CMX is able to retrieve those data as if it were a logger. So effectively CMX can be off-line without loss of data.

To summarize ecowitt station types:

Ecowitt Local API
- prefer this if your device has the local api (most gateways GW1x00, GW2000 and some WNxxxx consoles)
- in this mode CMX actively requsts data from the device
- best accuracy, shortest polling interval

HTTP Ecowitt
- use this with devices that do not have the local api (most consoles, HPxxxx)
- in this mode you must configure custom weather service upload to console
- in this mode CMX only listens if any station would upload data to it
- data update interval dependant on console custom service upload interval setting

Ecowitt Cloud
- use this only if your station does not have neither of local api or custom server upload (eg. 4g cellular station)
- usable also if your station is on a different location than your CMX install
- in this mode CMX downloads data from ecowitt.net without communicating to your station at all

There is a comprehensive list of Ecowitt devices and their features on WXForum, but you must register to see the featuresheets that are saved as pictures.

See also the Webtag List for using the values of the devices.

La Crosse

  • WS-2300 range (all model numbers of the form 23xx) ^. Use of a USB/Serial adapter is not supported with these stations.

Note that I don't have access to a La Crosse station, and the PC interface on these stations is very poor. If you find that you don't get very good results using Cumulus with one of these, I'm afraid I probably won't be able to do anything about it.

Instromet

Other

WeatherDuino https://wiki.weatherduino.com

A unit that can read transmissions from Fine Offset or Davis sensors and output them in a format that Cumulus can understand.

Unsupported Devices

Specifically, the following do not work with Cumulus. This is not a definitive list but stations we have come across which are not supported.

  • La Crosse WS3650 and WS2800 (all model numbers in range WS36xx and WS28xx)
  • TFA-Sinus/TFA-Nexus/Honeywell/Irox/Cresta/Ventus WXR-815LM/TE924W/TN924W/W928 etc
  • AcuRite
  • Peet Bros
  • Rainwise
  • Davis Weather Monitor
  • Davis Weather Wizard
  • Davis Envoy8X
  • Ambient WS-1000 and WS-1001 WIFI
  • Oregon Scientific WMR89 and WMR300
  • Tycon Power TP2700WC
  • Oregon Scientific LW301
  • WS-1400-IP
  • WH2600
  • Watson W-8681-Pro and W-8681-Pro II

My station is unsupported - Can I use Cumulus?

If your station output can be changed into the EasyWeather_Format, then Cumulus can offer most of its functionality by reading the last line of that file each time.
