When Steve Loft was about to retire from involvement with Cumulus, he wanted to close his web server. Consequently, a new host was needed for Wiki and the software that had been on the old server.

The Cumulus Wiki was copied by Ken True to this site in October, 2018 as part of the shutdown of Steve's sandaysoft.com website with his retirement, and the software files were moved at same time. Consequently, the Cumulus 1 files were linked to this "Downloads" page by Ken at that time, as part of the migration of the Wiki.

The next month (November 2018), Steve Loft sought a new host for the support forum, as next part of closing his web server. Consequently, a new host was needed for the forum and the files linked to it that included links to the MX beta he was writing and hosting on his web server. When Niall ("Freddie") took over hosting of the forum, the MX software that had been linked from the forum was moved to the Wiki on a new page [[Software|called Software]]. It appears (as the main page suggests "We've added download links for Cumulus V1 and Cumulus MX in the new Software/Downloads page ") there was a bit of conflict between Ken maintaining Cumulus 1 who created "Downloads", Mark, taking over Cumulus MX who created a separate page called software and Niall (the forum host) who rewrote the latter to partially merge them on that new Software page with Cumulus 1 downgraded to legacy. Unfortunately, Niall was so keen to promote the move to MX, he deliberately made it more difficult to find the files attached to this page, also he overlooked that "Downloads" page was already referenced from other pages and those links were not updated.

Consequently, I have modified this Wiki page back to a proper page, it now contains direct links to Cumulus 1 software download, but everything else related to Cumulus 1 for future reference (and historic interest). Subsequently, the Software page has been improved, and now has better links to Cumulus 1 and the patch.

When Steve Loft was about to retire from involvement with Cumulus, he wanted to close his web server. His server (sandaysoft.com) had hosted the wiki, the support forum, and some of the downloads were at http://sandaysoft.com/downloads. The other downloads (used mostly for beta and special releases) were at http://www.nybbles.co.uk/downloads which was also closed.

The Cumulus Wiki was copied by Ken True to thishis site in October, 2018 as part of the shutdown of Steve's sandaysoft.com website with his retirement, and the software files were moved at same time. Consequently, the Cumulus 1 software files there were linked to this "Downloads" page by Ken at that time, as part of the migration of the Wiki.

The next month (November 2018), Steve Loft sought a new host for the support forum, as next part of closing his web server. The Cumulus MX beta that Steve Loft was writing and hosting on his web server was available as a download within the support forum. When Niall Hosiene ("Freddie") took over hosting of the forum, all the forum contents were moved by him to his server.

It appears (as the main page suggests "We've added download links for Cumulus V1 and Cumulus MX in the new Software/Downloads page ") there was a bit of conflict between '''Downloads''' page and '''Software''' page.
*Ken True created new "Downloads" section in this Wiki referenced from other pages; to this were added the Cumulus 1 final version software download, the help file download and the Cumulus 1 special downloads for Instromet.
*Mark Crossley taking over Cumulus MX development created a new Wiki page just for MX, called software with links to his GitHub pages where the source and distributions for MX are now held (instead of as attachments to forum posts).
*Niall Hosiene (the forum host) edited the new Software page to make MX dominant, he was so keen to promote MX, he downgraded Cumulus 1 to legacy and made it difficult to find links to the various Cumulus 1 downloads. In promoting the "Software" page, he overlooked that other pages in this Wiki were linking to the original downloads page.

Subsequently:
#this wiki page has been resurrected for Cumulus 1
#the Software page has been improved by Ken True, and now has better links to Cumulus 1 and the patch.
