== Editing the log file ==
=== Editing in Cumulus MX ===
* You can't edit the current log file while Cumulus is running, because Cumulus needs exclusive write access. You can edit the log file for a past month, unless you are looking at past months using Cumulus editors.▼
The MX admin interface has a tab labelled '''Data logs''', in it you can choose which logs to view. If you choose '''Data logs''' (yes same name again), a screen comes up with the title "Data log viewer".
Near the top there is a date selector, click it to get a calendar like selector interface. Click "Load" button. Note that the date selector defaults to current month, but to actually see the entries you do need to click "Load". You can obviously select a past month here, and Load that.
Above the table, you will see 3 more buttons:
* '''Edit''' - you need to highlight a row, before you can use this button, it brings up a dialog with each field listed vertically, and alongside is the current value which you can edit into another value. At the end of this dialog (scroll down) are '''Cancel''' and '''Save''' buttons with obvious meanings (before version 3.6.1 these were respectively ''Close'' and ''Edit'' buttons, which were harder to understand).
* '''Delete''' - you need to highlight a row, before you can use this button, it simply deletes the whole highlighted line.
*'''Refresh''' - this button is available any time, it refreshes back the current contents, losing any unsaved changes.
=== Editing for Cumulus 1 users ===
Cumulus 1 allows you to view any monthly log file, but not to edit the contents. Consequently for Cumulus 1, you need to edit monthly log files outside Cumulus 1, subject to the following rules:
▲* You can't edit the current log file while Cumulus 1 is running, because Cumulus needs exclusive write access. You can edit the log file for a past month, unless you are looking at past months using Cumulus editors.
* You can't edit any log file with a word processor, as they add control characters and other information that Cumulus cannot understand.
* You can use either a specialised comma separated value file editor or a text editor.
